The Music Academy

Architect: Dominique Coulon and Associes

Contractor: Kupeli

Project: Conservatoire municipal de musique

The Music Academy is a narrow monolithic block, 100 metres in length and 40 metres wide. At right angles to the main street, an overhang stretches 16 metres out into the urban space. The complex represents the doorway to the city.

The building is full of natural light and the coloured patios introduce particular light. This is not only an extruded monolith, its covering framework winds progressively, energizing the building outline and creating surprising disruption of the vanishing points of the volume.
